Samsung Invests $151 Billion For Increasing Chip Production

0

South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics has increased its semiconductor capital budget, the company announced today.

Samsung’s original plan of investing in chip manufacturing by 2030 exceeded costs of KRW 133 trillion, and today the company has increased that to KRW 171 trillion, or roughly $151 billion. Samsung announced this at an event hosted by the South Korean government. And that’s not all, Samsung and SK Hynix will receive up to 50% tax breaks, as South Korea has decided to actively develop the production of microcircuits.

In other words, Samsung will spend $151 billion on developing its business, and in return will receive about $75 billion back from the state. All of this will work under the K-Semiconductor program developed by the Korean government, which plans to establish a kind of K-Chip quality mark in the country, i.e. Korean Сhip. It’s like K-pop, only with chips. South Korea is set to become the world’s leading chipmaker. To this end, the government will provide financial assistance to companies, sponsor the construction of new factories, and attract foreign specialists to develop technologies.

Nothing is known about the new smartphone of the American corporation. The 3D model presented by Prosser shows an unusual main camera module. First, it sticks out strongly; the Samsung Galaxy S21 module doesn’t even match it. Secondly, it has a horizontal layout and occupies the entire width of the rear panel. The main camera consists of three sensors, supplemented by an LED flash.

Also on the back panel, we can see the Google logo – the English letter G. The smartphone is made in orange, black, and beige colors.

Talking about the display, it has a sub-screen fingerprint scanner, and the selfie camera is located in a small perforated hole.

These are just rendered. It is worth taking them with a certain healthy dose of skepticism, despite the authority of John Prosser. We will know the truth only when the official images are shown by Google itself.

Xiaomi Moves Slowly to Fix MIUI 12 Bugs

0

Many people value Xiaomi smartphones for their quality and design, but in terms of software, the Chinese manufacturer still has a lot to learn. Xiaomi owners claim that the company is in no hurry to correct the errors identified in MIUI 12.

It would seem that a huge number of errors are characteristic of new gadgets that have just hit the market. But in the case of Xiaomi, smartphones, the release of which took place 2-3 years ago, also suffer from numerous bugs, for example, Mi 9T and Mi 9T Pro. Smartphones suffer from the appearance of a black screen when watching a video, freezing during the game, incorrect display of icons in Always On Top mode, problems with animation on the lock screen, glare, and flickering on the display.

POCO M3, Redmi Note 9S, and Redmi Note 9 Pro received their portion of negativity. Some POCO owners claim that the won’t turn on after installing the latest updates. Redmi models have another problem – sometimes they reboot spontaneously.

Many bugs in MIUI 12 are known to developers, but for some reason, they are in no hurry to fix them. It remains to be hoped that they will pay attention at least to the critical ones.

Enthusiast Bypassed Hardware Protection And Overclocked Radeon RX 6900 XT to 3.3 GHz

0

After the release of RDNA 2 video cards, enthusiasts began to overclock the new graphics and search for maximum frequencies. The last in the race for numbers was the foreign overclocker Der8auer, who managed to overclock the Radeon RX 6900 XT to 3.2 GHz. However, yesterday a new participant took the place of the record holder – he also managed to bypass the hardware frequency limit and overclock the video card even more.

The HWBot website has information about fresh testing of the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT video card. The device scored first in the 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme benchmark among single GPU systems.

The record result of 37618 points was achieved thanks to the overclocking of the video card to an unimaginable frequency. Previously, experts were limited to a maximum value of 3 GHz even after software modding. But the user with the nickname OGS managed to bypass the hardware overclocking protection and force the GPU to function stably at a record 3.3 GHz frequency. At the same time, he passed testing in Fire Strike Extreme without any problems.

As a platform for experiments, the specialist used an AMD system with a Ryzen 9 5950X processor, which also worked at an increased frequency of 5.6 GHz and was cooled with liquid nitrogen. The manufacturer of the video card was not disclosed, however, the detailed information on the test says Tul Corporation, which indicates PowerColor.

Vivo V21 SE Spotted on Geekbench

0

The Vivo V21 SE has been spotted in the popular Geekbench benchmark database. The device with model number V2061 scored 553 points in the single-core test and 1697 points in the multi-core test.

The gadget is based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720G chipset. The amount of RAM is 8 GB. It is likely that Vivo will also release a version with 6GB of RAM. The device runs on the popular Android 11 operating system with the latest version of the FuntouchOS proprietary shell.

gsmarena

Earlier, Vivo V21 SE was listed in the Google Play Console. It states that the gadget will receive a display with a resolution of 1080p (1080 × 2400 pixels) and a pixel density of 440 PPI. The diagonal of the screen is about 6 inches. The rest of the device’s parameters, unfortunately, are not disclosed. The date of the official presentation also remains unknown. But the wait is unlikely to take too long.

As a reminder, Vivo has already introduced three V21 series smartphones. We are talking about Vivo V21, Vivo V21 5G, and Vivo V21e. Vivo V21 SE will be the fourth model. Traditionally, the SE version is the most inexpensive in the lineup.

B560 Motherboards Lower The Performance of Rocket Lake Processors

0

Intel recently introduced a new line of processors, which became the final stage in the development of the proprietary 14 nm process technology. At the same time, the manufacturer released an updated series of system logic, including the B560 chipset, which not only repeated the capabilities of the previous generation but also acquired the functions of a flagship. These are memory overclocking and setting consumption limits. And the systems do not cope with the latter as we would like.

The author of the Hardware Unboxed YouTube channel has tested several motherboards based on the system logic of the B560 series. He compared the raw performance of the six-core and eight-core processors in the factory BIOS settings and then repeated the test with manually set power limits.

The specialist compared the performance of Intel Core i5 11400F with different motherboards – MSI B560 Tomahawk, Gigabyte B560M Aorus Pro, as well as several budget models. As a result, it turned out that a six-core processor is only able to reach the maximum frequency with expensive motherboards, while the automation of budget models reduces the clock frequency from the effective 4200 MHz to 3300 MHz and even 3100 MHz. Naturally, such a frequency spread also led to a decrease in performance – the processor on the MSI B560M Pro renders in Cinebench R23 30% slower than on the MSI B560 Tomahawk.

Then the enthusiast compared the same set of motherboards, but with an eight-core processor. The results were similar. While gaming performance did not sag so much, the difference in the Cinebench benchmark was again in the region of 30-40%, not in favor of budget systems.

To find out what the problem is, the specialist removed the power consumption limits in the BIOS of all motherboards and again tested it in a demanding benchmark. And only after manual settings did the processors show the declared power on all motherboard models.

It turned out that some motherboards cannot cope with the work of current processors and underestimate the operating clock frequency below the turbo frequency set by the manufacturer. The fact is that budget systems are not designed for long-term operation in demanding tasks, since they have a mediocre power subsystem, and some models even lack cooling for VRM circuits. Therefore, automatic algorithms specifically limit the capabilities of the chips in order to avoid overheating and component failure.

Gigabyte Released Z590 AORUS Xtreme Waterforce

0

A couple of months ago, the Taiwanese company Gigabyte showed the Z590 AORUS Xtreme Waterforce – an enthusiast motherboard with a water block that carries out cooling of the processor and power subsystem. The manufacturer did not announce the cost then, but it was assumed that it would be comparable to the price of the ROG Maximus XIII Glacial – the flagship motherboard from ASUS for $1,500. exceeded expectations and priced the AORUS Xtreme Waterforce at $1,600.

So what do we get for this amount? The first thing that catches your eye is a candy bar equipped with an indication of the temperature of the processor and water in the system. A backlit water block covers the CPU and VRM and further cools the chipset and NVMe SSD.

The novelty has a built-in leakage protection function, thanks to which the system automatically shuts down in case of problems. For better overclocking, the power subsystem uses a 20 + 1 phase with 100A cascades.

Also Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Xtreme Waterforce received:

  • support for Intel 10th and 11th generation processors
  • Support for dual-channel unbuffered DDR4 memory without ECC
  • Intel TB 4
  • AQUANTIA 10GbE LAN and Intel 2.5GbE LAN
  • Wi-Fi 6E and BT 5 with two antennas
  • audio codec with high-quality ESS SABER 9018K2M DAC and LME 49720, OPA1622, and WIMA audio capacitors
  • RGB FUSION 2.0 backlight control system

The Gigabyte Z590 AORUS Xtreme Waterforce has become the most expensive consumer motherboard on the market. For its price, for example, you can buy three flagship Intel 11th generation Core i9-11900K processors.

AMD 4700S Desktop Kit Spotted in Photos

0

The photos were posted by @disclosuzen on the Twitter microblogging network. Many are convinced that the 4700S processors were defective, which is why they did not make it to the Xbox Series S game console, but AMD did not comment on this opinion in any way.

Presumably, the motherboard shown in the photo is in the mini-ITX form factor. It is powered by a standard 24-pin connector and an 8-pin EPS connector. The board has a small fan and a custom heatsink.

https://twitter.com/disclosuzen/status/1391649129638469635

Like mini-ITX motherboards, this model received a PCIe 3.0×16 expansion slot for connecting a discrete video card, since integrated graphics inside the 4700S may simply be absent.

The case has all eight ports: the black ones are most likely USB 2.0 connectors, the red ones are USB 3.0. There is a 3.5mm audio jack and one Ethernet port.

It’s difficult to talk about the cost since the motherboard is not officially sold anywhere, but in one of the Finnish stores, it was found at a price of $317.38.
