Twitter is Testing Tip Jar Feature

Social networking site Twitter has begun rolling out a new Tip Jar feature for Android and iOS that will allow users to send money to their favorites’ accounts.

To use the new feature, users will only have to click on the new dollar bill icon next to the user’s name while viewing their profile. Users will be able to turn off the Tip Jar feature in their account if they do not want to receive transfers.

Tip Jar will support Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon, Paypal, and Venmo payment services. Starting today, all English-speaking Twitter users can share their views on the desirability of the new feature. So far, however, only a select group – “content creators, journalists, experts, and non-profit organizations” – can activate Tip Jar to accept money now.

To send someone a material reward for a tweet you like, you will need to go to the user’s profile – i.e. it still takes a little more effort than just retweeting or liking it.
