Facebook is in the process of making a big change that will affect what we know so far about instant messaging. It plans to integrate Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger applications. Although they will retain their autonomy, at a deeper level it will now be possible for users’ messages to “travel” between the three services.
Facebook cited the beginning of a “long process”, the initiative of which was led by leader Mark Zuckerberg, according to the BBC and the New York Times.
According to APE, once the project is completed by the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020, a Facebook user will be able to communicate directly with another user who e.g. It only has a WhatsApp account, which is impossible today, as the three individual applications do not have a common core.
Zuckerberg’s goal is to make his services more useful and increase the time users spend on them. At the same time, Facebook, thanks to integration, will be able to compete more effectively with Google and Apple.
To date, Facebook has allowed Instagram and WhatsApp to function as largely independent companies. The decision to unify created internal divisions and was partly the reason for the founders of the two companies, which had previously been acquired by Facebook, to leave in 2018.
