Shanghai MacBook and iPad Component Factory Burns Down

On the outskirts of Shanghai in the Jinshan district, a plant of Shengrui Electronic Technology, a subsidiary of Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Casetek Group, broke out on Thursday in a massive fire that raged for almost a day. We are talking about one of the largest collectors of Apple products.

123 fire trucks, about 900 people, and 8 robots were involved in the fight against the flames. However, victims could not be avoided: many people were blocked by fire. During the search and rescue operation, two firefighters died, and six employees of the plant could not be saved.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but the flame quickly gained strength and covered vast areas of a large plant. Surely Apple will investigate compliance with fire safety measures and try to avoid similar tragedies in the future. How this will affect the business of the American corporation is not yet clear. But given the diversification of the business and its size, the company will simply increase orders from other assemblers.

Shengrui Electronic Technology is a subsidiary of Casetek Group, a Taiwan-based manufacturer that makes cases for the MacBook and iPad. The latter, in turn, was acquired by Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Pegatron last year.
