Samsung to Build 700 Megawatt Solar Power Plant in Texas

Weather anomalies in February revealed the vulnerability of the Texas power system, as a result of which the local enterprise Samsung Electronics had to stop its work on an emergency basis and write off some of its products. A division of the Korean conglomerate intends to build a 700-megawatt solar power plant in Texas, which will begin operation in December 2023.

This is reported by the Nikkei Asian Review with reference to Reuters. For Samsung C&T, the $673 million projects will be located in Milam County, Texas, less than two hours from the Austin site, where Samsung Electronics plans to build a new $ 17 billion contract manufacturing facility for semiconductor components. Construction work on the construction of the power plant is scheduled to begin in June 2022. Local authorities have already agreed on this project with Samsung C&T.

As part of environmental initiatives, Joseph Biden plans to convert all power plants in the United States to carbon-free resources by 2035. The South Korean authorities will no longer finance the construction of generating facilities outside the country that use coal as fuel. Samsung C&T will also stop using coal in all new energy projects.
