Japanese publisher Capcom reports that the eighth horror film Resident Evil Village, released last week, has sold nearly 3 million copies. And this is more than the initial edition of Resident Evil 7: BioHazard – after launch, it was acquired by about 2.5 million players. These are exclusively physical copies, digital versions are not counted.
As for Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6, they sold better – 4 and 4.5 million copies, respectively. The top 10 most played games in the Resident Evil series are as follows:

- Resident Evil 6 (released in 2012) – 11.5 million copies
- Resident Evil 4 (released in 2005) – 10.8 million copies.
- Resident Evil 7: BioHazard (2017) – 8.5 million
- Resident Evil 2 remake (released in 2019) – 7.8 million copies
- Resident Evil 2 (released in 1998) – 6.1 million copies.
- Remake of the first Resident Evil (released in 2002) – 5.3 million copies.
- Resident Evil (1996) – 5.3 million copies
- Resident Evil 0 (a prequel to the first part was released in 2002) – 4.1 million copies.
- Resident Evil 3 Remake (2020) – 3.6 million copies
Resident Evil Village has been released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S consoles, as well as PC. The horror film received high marks from critics and was also warmly received by fans of the series. The game is praised for its addictive gameplay, interesting storyline, and beautiful graphics (especially on new generation consoles). The main disadvantage is the abundance of action in the final part.
