Google has announced that it will make it easier for users to use privacy and security, including expanding the “incognito” use of its applications, as well as selecting the automatic deletion of data related to site history, searches, and other user activities.
Incognito mode appeared on the Chrome web browser in 2018, was added to YouTube earlier this year, and has now been expanded to Google Maps. When a user uses Incognito Mode on Maps, their activity within the application, such as the parts they searched for, will not be stored in their Google Account and will not be used to make their Maps experience more personalized.
You can turn on Incognito mode by selecting it in the menu that appears when you click on the profile picture, and you can turn it off at any time. The Incognito mode will launch on Android this month, and will soon be available for iOS devices.
In May, Google announced that users could now automatically delete site history and web and application activity, which includes things they’ve searched for and browsed. Now the automatic deletion also comes in YouTube history. The user can set the time period for storing his data (three months, 18 months, or until he deletes them).
The company also announced that it has added new ways to easily understand and manage user data on Google Assistant. Confidential control becomes easier with simple voice commands. In the coming weeks, each user will be able to delete the Assistant’s activity from their Google account, saying e.g. “Hey Google, delete the last thing I told you” or “Hey Google, delete everything I told you last week.”
The user will not need to activate any of these functions, as they will work automatically when he asks Assistant for help. If he requests that he delete data for more than a week from his account, the Assistant will direct him directly to the page with his account settings to complete the deletion. The new feature will be available this week in English and next month in all other languages.
In addition, in order to enhance the security of the user’s password, the new “Password Control” is now in place, a new feature that with one click informs if one of the passwords is weak, if the user has it reuse on many sites or if the code has been compromised by third parties.
