Google updated Google Earth on April 15th, adding a new Timelapse mode that combines 24 million satellite photos taken over the last 37 years. And … that’s it. According to Google, it’s the biggest update since the 2017 redesign of Google Earth, which everyone probably forgot existed.
By the way, Google Earth hasn’t made any major new feature updates since then. So by default automatically, this is probably Earth’s biggest update after a long time. The Google Earth timelapse was launched a few years ago, but it was only 2D when accessed from a dedicated site. It became 3D this time. It’s an exciting (or really depressing) five minutes to see the Earth’s 37-year history.
