Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has decided to change his approach to the most popular social networking site, even if it provokes a backlash from some.
“This is a new approach and I think a lot of people will be upset. But, honestly, the old approach also plagued a lot of people, so let’s try something different, “Zuckerberg told a technology conference in Utah on Friday.
As the co-founder and CEO of Facebook admitted, his company – CNN reports – has been trying for a long time to avoid doing anything that would be considered “too offensive”, but now it is changing this approach, in view of what it considers to be excessive censorship.
“We are increasingly being called upon to censor many different types of content, which makes us feel really uncomfortable,” Zuckerberg said, despite acknowledging Facebook’s responsibility to eliminate any content related to terrorism, child exploitation, and incitement to violence from the platform.
“We will download content that is really harmful, but the line needs to be kept at one point,” he added.
Finally, he said he would continue to fight for encryption, an issue that has been the subject of much war in recent months.
