Filmmaker Richard Raaphorst denounced CAPCOM for one of the monster concepts featured in the Resident Evil Village. In a post on LinkedIn, the director revealed that the Resident Evil Village developers used at least one monster from his 2013 film Army of Frankenstein. According to the plot of the film, at the end of World War II, a Soviet reconnaissance group is sent on a mission to free the prisoners. But he stumbles upon monsters that are half-human bodies, half machinery.
Raaphorst shared comparative images of one particular monster depicted in Army of Frankenstein and Resident Evil Village. The similarities are obvious. Therefore, Capcom may well expect full-fledged litigation in the future. Overall, Resident Evil Village is considered by many reviewers to be a good mix of various horror film styles, including werewolves, vampires, creep dolls, and the like. Therefore, it will not be surprising if similar charges of plagiarism will be brought against other cultural figures in the future.
